Abstract
The article highlights modern methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of atherosclerotic plaques. The Raman spectroscopy method discussed in detail. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method, which allows you to obtain images of the surface of samples with very high resolution and study in detail the structure and components of the plaque. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS), integrated with SEM, allows to determine the presence and distribution of chemical elements in the sample. At last, neutron activation analysis, which allows the determination of a significant number of elements in various biological substrates with exceptionally high sensitivity. The advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods are investifated.
