ENGINEERING GEOLOGY CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCK SWELLING IN COAL DEPOSITS OF THE U.S.S.R.

Abstract

This article presents a synthesis of engineering geological aspects of heaving in argillaceous rocks in various coal mines of the U.S.S.R. The purpose of the study was to determine the nature of rock deformation in mines, the effect of natural and engineering factors, and the engineering geological properties of rocks. These factors are discussed in the light of paleogeographical conditions prevailing during the deposition of coal measures, and subsequent geotectonic conditions determining the degree of rock lithification. - -E.
