Abstract

The authors study the development of instability during a beam-plasma discharge under conditions where the density of the beam is close to that of the plasma. It is experimentally demonstrated that the rise of the space-charge waves at a certain distance from the input antenna is followed by damping. A possible mechanism is discussed by which the double-stream instability is stabilized.
