Abstract

Abstract Results of IR and Raman measurements for Li 2 SO 4 ·H 2 O and Li 2 SO 4 ·D 2 O are reported and compared with neutron inelastic scattering data. Bands at about 320,580, and 850 cm −1 are interpreted as connected with H 2 O torsions. A group theory analysis of the torsional vibrations of H 2 O molecules in the crystal is given.
