Abstract

An experimental study was made of the constant-volume thermal conductivity of nitrogen over the 64.2–300°K temperature range, including the critical region. The density of nitrogen varied from 0.067 to 0.864 g/cm3. The results of measurements are compared here with those obtained by other authors and with Enskog’s theory. Within the critical range estimates are made of the critical exponent for the thermal conductivity of the liquid phase (a'L =0.7±0.05) and of the vapor phase (a'v = 0.7±0.05) as well as on the critical isochore (a = 0.76±0.1). The value a'L = a'V = a≃2/3 according to theory, is thus confirmed within given accuracy limits.
