Abstract

By measuring the dielectric constant, the molar volumes were determined of liquid He3, He4 and their solutions, with He3 contents of 35.2, 50.7, and 65.1%, under a pressure of up to 100 atm over the temperature range 1.5−4.2°K. The excess molar mixing volume of the solutions was traced, as a function of the pressure, temperature and concentration. At a pressure in excess of 7.5 atm, the possibility arises for the direct comparison of the measured molar volumes of solutions of He3 and He4 with the calculated values, within the scope of the Prigogine isotopic solution model. The theoretical values of the excess molar volume were found to be smaller than the experimental values by a factor of 2.
