Abstract

It is shown that the exchange interaction between the electric and magnetic subsystems of a uniaxial ferroelectric-antiferromagnet leads to the appearance of a jump in the electrical polarization in the spin-flip field of the magnetic moments. This interaction can also cause the second-order phase transition to change into a first-order transition in strong magnetic fields. The temperature dependence of these effects is investigated.
