Abstract

Abstract Dissociation of Frenkel excitons in the neighbourhood of a charged defect in anthracene crystals is investigated in relation to the recent experimental results of Fort and Coret. The trimer model is adopted, and the charge‐transfer integral relevant to the exciton decay is calculated in a simple semiempirical scheme. The dissociation probability is found to be enhanced due to the interaction with a cationic defect. An alternative interpretation of the experimental results in terms of the mixing of the exciton and charge‐transfer states is proposed. A possible role of both the mechanisms is discussed.
