Collective excitations in a two-dimensional classical plasma on a dielectric film

Abstract

A study is made of the properties of a nonideal two-dimensional classical electron gas above a thin dielectric film deposited on a metal substrate. The spectrum and damping of two-dimensional plasmons are calculated in the random-phase approximation. It is shown that for certain values of the external parameters (temperature and concentration) Landau damping becomes very pronounced and weakly-damped collective excitations in such a system of charges are simultaneously absent for all values of the wave vector.
