Abstract

A modified version of thermodynamic perturbation theory is used to calculate equilibrium properties of liquid hydrogen (the compressibility factor, the heat capacity, and the sound velocity). The considerable contribution due to quantum effects is taken into account by using the quantum hard-sphere model as an unperturbed system. The properties of this system are calculated in the formalism of “modified” Ursell functions. The calculated thermodynamic quantities are in good agreement with experimental data in a wide range of states. Possibilities for further development of the suggested method are discussed.
