Abstract

The molar volumes of He3, He4 and a mixture of He3-He4 with 50.7 mole% He3 were determined by the dielectric constant measurement method over the temperature range 1.5 to 14°K, at two pressure values of 3 and 10 atm. It was established that the temperature dependence of the excess molar volume VE, characterizing the deviation of the solution from ideal, has a nonmonotonic sign-alternating nature. With increase of pressure from 3 to 10 atm, the excess volume is decreased in absolute value by a factor of 30−40. The established behavior of VE(T) was found to have a qualitative explanation within the scope of the Prigogine model for isotopic systems.
