Inelastic relaxation in Pb1−<i>x</i>Sn<i>x</i>Te solid solutions

Abstract

Measurements were made of the isothermal changes of the dielectric permittivity and of the electron concentration in single crystals of Pb0.84 Sn0.16 Te solid solutions during inelastic relaxation of such crystals after adiabatic cooling and heating. The relaxation time has been found to become much longer after cooling to about T = 4.3°K. At this temperature the system reaches its equilibrium state after 4−5 h.
