Coexistence of free and self-localized excitons in solid argon

Abstract

New experimental features of the intrinsic luminescence of crystalline argone are reported; the free- exciton luminescence has been measured near the edge of the Λ (3/2), n = 1 intrinsic absorption band. On the basis of the data obtained the possibility for coexistence of free and self-localized excitons is discussed. It is found that the free excitons can coexist with self-localized ones of various types (two-center and one-center).
