Abstract
Thermodynamic perturbation theory is used to calculate the equilibrium bulk properties of ortho–para mixtures of liquid hydrogen. The use of an effective spherically symmetrical intermolecular potential for the ortho–ortho interaction makes it easy to find the thermodynamic properties of such systems as a function of the concentrations. As an example, differences in the compressibility factors of normal hydrogen and pure para hydrogen are calculated from the isotherms T = 23 and 29°K. The results are in good agreement with experimental data.
