Abstract
When luminescence from the antiferromagnet MnF2 (νmax≃17000 cm‒1) was excited by radiation from a neodymium-glass laser (ν ≃ 9400 cm‒1) the integral luminescence intensity was observed to increase as the fourth power of the exciting power. The cross section for absorption of light in this process is σ ≃ 10‒27cm2. The results of this experiment indicate that two-exciton absorption of light has been observed, in which two excitons are simultaneously excited by the absorption of two photons each.
