Abstract

A study is made of the conditions for existence of weakly damped longitudinal oscillations of the electron system in “pure” superconductors with paramagnetic impurities. Inclusion of paramagnetic impurities in superconductors leads to suppression of electron “sound” at a relatively low impurity concentration: ωτs∼1. The physical nature of this phenomenon is connected with the damping action of branch mixing caused by the paramagnetic impurities on electron “sound” in the range of frequencies comparable to the characteristic mixing frequency.
