Abstract

The effect of nitrogen and oxygen impurities in neon and argon crystals on the VUV emission spectra has been studied. It is demonstrated that the broad molecular bands in argon (centered at 6.2 and 7.6 eV) are due to emission from ArO* and ArN* excimers. Information about the excitonic nature of the energy transfer in argon crystals is obtained from the concentration and temperature dependences of the intensities in the excimer bands.
