Theory of metamagnetic transitions in ErB4

Abstract

A model is given that describes the phase transitions in ErB4 induced by an external magnetic field along the tetragonal axis; the crystal symmetry and some additional assumptions about the nature of the phase transitions enable one to express the exchange-interaction constants in terms of the critical fields. All the rare-earth tetraborides are isomorphous, so the argument can be extended to other such compounds.
