Abstract

Abstract Faraday rotation measurements in pulsed magnetic fields up to 160 kOe and in low dc fields are carried out for Ho 3 Fe 5 O 12 near the compensation point. Transition to the canted phase is observed and the temperature dependence of the critical field determined. From the holmium sublattice magnetization and H cr versus. T gradient, values of the two molecular field coefficients are determined.
