Abstract

Stepwise deformation is examined in normal and superconducting aluminum and at the superconducting transition. It was found that the state of the metal exerts a substantial influence on the stepwise deformation. The results obtained are compared with existing theoretical models for the thermal instability of plastic deformation at low temperature.
