Effects of dislocation dipoles and prismatic dislocation loops on the thermodynamics of electrons in metals

Abstract

The quasiclassical part of the electron spectrum in the field of a dislocation dipole and of a circular prismatic loop is investigated. In the case of the dipole, the spectrum is a system of an infinite number of levels which bunch together at a certain energy; in the field of the loop the spectrum contains a finite number of levels. The contribution of such dislocation formations to the thermodynamic potential of conduction electrons near the 2 1/2-order transition point is calculated and is compared with the contribution of randomly arranged linear dislocations.
