Abstract

We consider the interaction of a strong electromagnetic wave with an intrinsic two-band semiconductor. Both resonant and nonresonant parts of the interaction are considered. The former leads to the steady state distribution of quasiparticles, and the latter to the oscillation of the distribution around the stationary value, and to energy absorption. The absorption is determined by the response of the system, in a steady state, to a weak perturbation. The analysis shows that the limiting cases of the result display different field dependences.
