Abstract

Pressure-induced changes in the anisotropy of the magnetic susceptibility of cadmium single crystals and Cd1–x Mgx alloys (x <0.02) were studied in the liquid-hydrogen temperature range. Pressure-initiated 2 1/2- order electronic phase transitions allowed estimates on the basis of the concept of an effective temperature, to be made of the effect of scattering in orbital magnetism associated with magnesium impurities in the cadmium matrix: T* = 13 ±1 °K/at.% Mg.
