Abstract

It is demonstrated that near first order order-disorder phase transitions in solids with a gradient of the strain tensor (due, for instance, to a temperature gradient) there exist several types of nonlinear waves (solitons): domain-wall waves, interphase-boundary waves, and nonlinear waves of a new type in the metastable phase. Solitons of this new type can, while propagating, evolve into a moving domain of the new phase.
