Abstract

We study the field dependence of the contribution to the magnetic susceptibility of metal films which does not oscillate with a changing magnetic field. The field is assumed small and parallel to the film. When the thermodynamic perturbation theory is applicable we obtain formulas for the regular part of the electron magnetization of a film with an arbitrary surface potential. It is shown that at low temperatures, the field dependence of the film magnetization is more pronounced than the magnetization of bulk metals.
