Abstract

The Van der Waals interaction constants of inert atoms in crystalline lattices and in the gas phase are determined on the basis of literature data characterizing their interaction. We employ the approximate interaction potential obtained previously by construction of the surface on which the wave function goes to zero. Such an approximation contains only two adjustable parameters, including the constant sought, which guarantees the reliability of its determination due to the large number of experimental data used. The constants obtained differ significantly from those reported by Bell and Kingston, which were obtained by analysis of experimental data on the refraction of the gas phase.
