Abstract
The process of formation and the structure of metal layers, obtained by condensation of molecular beams on a substrate cooled to liquid helium temperature, are examined. Many metals and semimetals form, in this case, an amorphous condensate. The region of existence of the amorphous phases (restricted by the thickness of the layer and temperature), the amorphous rendering effect of impurities, and the coordination structure of amorphous metals are discussed.
