Abstract

The authors discuss peculiarities of soft phonon modes at ferroelastic phase transitions in KSc(MoO4)2. The results of spectrum studies of Raman scattering and Mandelshtam–Brillouin scattering are analyzed using the thermodynamic analysis previously proposed by the authors. The mechanism of ferroelastic phase transitions into the monoclinic phase is interpreted using a symmetry analysis in trigonal double molybdates and tungstates.
