Abstract

We have studied the damping of long wavelength sound waves due to defect scattering in easy plane antiferromagnets. We have shown that the main contribution to the damping is due to the interaction of sound with dislocations, which yields an effective elastic anharmonicity in the magnetic subsystem. We have calculated the sound attenuation caused by dislocation scattering for λ ≳ r0 (where r0 is the average distance between dislocations).
