Abstract

Diffusion of copper atoms in crystalline xenon is studied with specimens illuminated by light at frequencies lying within the impurity absorption band of isolated copper atoms. Experimental data on the change with time of the intensity of the impurity absorption band for resonant irradiation are used to determine the photo-induced diffusion coefficient D. It is established that at 10 °K and moderate pump radiation D > 1.8 · 10−17cm2/sec. The experimental results allow the conclusion that the elementary diffusion act is of an exchange nature.
