Abstract
The magnetization susceptibility χ of conduction electrons in weak magnetic fields H(x = x0 + x1H2) is analyzed as the chemical potential passes through the singular points of the energy spectrum. The cases of separate critical points at which the topology of the Fermi surface changes and of certain converging energy bands are considered. It is shown that the singularities in the ζ dependence of x1(as compared to x0) are much more pronounced. The three-band model of the electron spectrum used to describe the magnetic susceptibility behavior in hep metals is studied in details. Experimental studies of the predictable anomalies in x1 can provide valuable information on the electron band structure parameters.
