Transverse phonon relaxation in He II below 0.7 °K

Abstract

It is shown that the T−5 temperature dependence of the phonon mean free path in He II, observed experimentally, is related to characteristic features of the phonon dispersion curve. The physical restrictions on the temperature range over which this dependence applies are indicated and also the conditions for a transition to the T−9 dependence predicted earlier.
