Abstract
The attenuation of surface acoustic waves in gallium in high magnetic fields has been studied. A method for studying the temperature dependence of the carrier mean free path is proposed. It was established that the temperature dependent part of the collision frequency in gallium is proportional to T2 up to T = 8.5 °K. A logarithmic dependence of surface wave attenuation on mean free path was found in a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane in which the sound propagates.
