Abstract
The absorption of hf power by electrons on the surface of liquid helium at a frequency of 324 MHz at temperatures ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 °K and with electron densities of (5.5–11)·10−8 cm−2 is investigated. It is shown that in the density range (6.9–8.3)·108 cm−2 in the region of the crystalline state of the electron layer, as the temperature decreases, at some point absorption of hf power increases. The observed effect is due to excitation of the optical mode of plasma oscillations in the electron crystal on liquid helium. The velocity of transverse sound in the electron crystal is estimated.
