Abstract

Heat transport by vacancies in a solid is examined. A macroscopic kinetic equation, in which dislocations and the boundaries of the specimen appear as vacancy sources and sinks, and plasticity equations, which have to be solved jointly, are formulated. Boundary conditions for different cases are discussed. The solution of the kinetic equation for the case of a specimen with restricted boundaries, corresponding to constant-volume experiments, is analyzed in detail.
