Abstract

The thermal expansion coefficients of solid argon have been measured in the temperature range from 65 to 82 K. The volume, entropy, and enthalpy of vacancy formation have been calculated on the basis of the known thermal expansion coefficients of inert-gas crystals, measured using macroscopic and x-ray techniques. The thermal expansion data have been used to determine the thermal properties of solid argon in the premelting temperature range.
