Abstract

Experiments were performed to investigate the Gantmakher–Kaner effect in zinc due to electrons near the reference point of the lens. The complicated (two minima) amplitude-angular dependence of the effect was found to change into a monotonic function as the surface state of the sample is altered. This change was established to be due to a transition from mainly specular to diffuse surface scattering of the electrons.
