Abstract

We have constructed a theory of the absorption of light by neutral and charged kinks in the linear Peierls dielectric polyacetylene. It is shown that the presence of topological solitons leads to the appearance of absorption within the gap and to a reduction in the amplitude of the direct interband transition. The Green’s function formalism for a Peierls dielectric, with a kink, developed previously in the work of Krive and one of the present authors, is generalized in the present work.
