Abstract

We report a visual study of the domain structure of thin crystal platelets of the hexagonal ferrimagnetic system RbNi1−xCoxF3 (x = 0.19 and x = 0.23), which has an “easy axis” type of anisotropy, in the temperature range 4.2−140 K in an external magnetic field H║C6. It is shown that depending on the growth conditions different types of open domain structures may arise and exist stably, with the surface domains of opposite magnetization typical of thick (h > hc) magnetically uniaxial platelets. The parameters of the structures studied are in accord with the results of calculations based on known theoretical models.
