Abstract

We report an x-ray structural study of the solid solutions O2 + Ar. We construct the equilibrium solubility diagram. We have established the important influence of small argon concentrations on the temperature of the phase transitions in oxygen. It is shown that the presence in argon of an insignificant amount (∼ 1%) of oxygen molecules leads to a change in the symmetry of its lattice. Four metastable phases have been studied and we have studied various of the their properties.
