Potentiometric and radiometric studies of the laws of pseudoselective solution of unalloyed and tin-alloyed beta-brass
Abstract
By means of a combination of potentiometric and radiometric measurements together with electron-microscope investigations of the surface, the authors have studied the kinetics of deposition of copper at the zero-current potential on unalloyed brass and tinalloyed brass in acidulated chloride solution containing a certain concentration of Cu/sup +/ ions. Having tagged the copper ions in the solution with the radioactive isotope Cu/sup 64/, the time dependence was measured of its radioactivity /SUP N/ Cu. Incorporation of tin in the brass leads to marked retardation of the deposition of copper and thus to pseudoselective solution of the brass.
