Abstract
Ultrasound absorption studies have shown that end magnetic-field inhomogeneities affect the intermediate-state structure of cylindrical specimens. The use of superconducting flat screens makes it possible to approach the equilibrium structure of an infinite cylinder; this is manifested by a quantitative agreement between the experimental dependence of the normal-layer thickness on the magnetic field and the Landau theory.
