Abstract
On the basis of experiments to separate the contributions of various strain-induced defects to an increase in the Tc of niobium the authors conclude that the increase is due to the localization of the plastic strain and the formation of the most metastable defects, interstitial atoms, that cause softening of the phonon spectrum.
