Abstract
Using optical spectroscopy we have determined the orientation of the antiferromagnetism vector 1 in the basal plane of antiferromagnetic MnF2 in the spin-flop phase with H oriented exactly along C4. This direction is a C2 axis. The magnitude of the anisotropy field is found to be HA′ ≃6.5·10−3 T, and the sign of the fourth order anisotropy parameter in the basal plane is also determined.
