Magnetic properties of topological solitons in a one-dimensional Peierls chain

Abstract

We discuss a continuum model of a one-dimensional Peierls dielectric, taking into account the interaction between the electron spins and a magnetic field. We calculate the magnetic moment of the chain when one neutral topological soliton in the order parameter is present. It is shown that in fields μH <Δ the magnetic moment is determined by the contribution of the electronic levels localized at the soliton. We also calculate the EPR absorption due to a soliton.
