Abstract

An analysis has been carried out of the thermal and magnetic properties of liquid oxygen near the melting temperature. It is suggested, on the basis of calculation of the saturated vapor pressure and of the magnetic susceptibility, that the γ phase structure is preserved in liquid oxygen in the form of a short-range order. An explanation is given of the anomalously low values of the volume jump on melting, of the entropy of melting and of the saturated vapor pressure at the triple point.
