Abstract
The scattering of a soliton (bound quasiparticle state) by a point defect in a one-dimensional system is investigated within the framework of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The fast-soliton scattering intensity is calculated and compared with the total intensity of the scattering of free quasiparticles. It is shown that the soliton scattering intensity tends to zero as the quasiparticle binding energy is increased.
