Abstract

We have studied the absorption spectra of the high-temperature superconductors Y(La)Ba(Sr)CuO in the frequency range from 400 to 3600 cm−1 and compared their superconducting properties. In the lanthanum compounds the superconducting mechanism is closely tied to phonons whose energies are approximately 64 meV. In yttrium compounds 140 meV optical phonons are important.
