Abstract

The low-temperature heat capacity of disordered solids, consisting of separate atoms (metallic glasses, highly dispersed polycrystals with a simple lattice, and crystals with a high density of dislocations) is studied in the simplest microscopic model. The conditions under which a term linear in the temperature (or in the more general case, a non-Debye power-law term) appears in the expression for the heat capacity are determined.
