Abstract
X-ray studies have been carried out of the lattice parameters of the ceramic YBa2Cu3O7 in the temperature range from 4.5 to 293 °K. A sharp anomaly was found in the temperature dependence of the coefficients of linear thermal expansion in the region of the superconducting transition, which is of a noticeably anisotropic character. The effective increase in volume of the rhombohedral cell over the anomaly amounts to about 0.4%. An unusual form for the change in the width of the diffraction lines which were determined was also noted near Tc, which might be due to the appearance of modulated positions of the oxygen atoms in the interbarium planes.
